Colin and Shannon Westcott started Hops and
Berries in the fall of 2005, with a lot of help from their
son, (then 15 months old) Elias. Having recently moved to Fort Collins, they were
shocked to find there was no home brew and wine supply store.
So, rather than sit idly by, they took it upon themselves
to start one.
The Westcotts moved to Fort Collins in October from Anchorage,
AK with their 13 month old son Elias. In Alaska, Colin brewed
for Midnight Sun Brewing Co. and Shannon was a project manager
for a Web development company. Colin has nine years of commercial brewing
experience (having started home brewing at the age of 19 after
taking his father’s equipment). Over the past several
years, Shannon has absorbed a vast knowledge about the brewing
process. Eventually, the two began making mead and wine at
home also. As a result, both have a lot of knowledge that
they’re very willing to share.
